Temporary Skill Shortage Visa, or Subclass 482, is a temporary work visa. The 482 visa allows an Australian employer to sponsor a skilled foreign worker to work in Australia for a skilled job role.

The job offered must be one of the nominated occupations on the Short Skilled list or Medium Long term skilled list.

Subclass 482 TSS: Streams

Subclass 482 Visa is categorized into three major streams that are listed below –

• Short-term stream
• Medium-term stream
• Labor agreement stream

Short term stream

• Candidates with occupations listed on the Short-term Occupation List (STOL) can apply for the TSS visa via this stream.
• The TSS visa under the short-term stream lets you work in Australia for two years.
• You can extend the visa for an additional two years upon meeting the requirements but are not eligible to apply for permanent residency.

Medium Term stream

• Candidates with occupations that are listed on the Medium and Long Term Occupation List (MLTSSL)
• The TSS visa under the medium-term stream lets you work in Australia for four years.
• Upon meeting the eligibility requirements, you can apply for permanent residency via ENS/RSMS (Employer Sponsored Temporary Transition Stream).

Labour agreement stream

• The Labour Agreement stream is for candidates for skilled foreign workers.
• The skilled workers must be recruited by a business that maintains a Labour Agreement with the government of Australia.
• Candidates can apply for citizenship in Australia upon meeting the eligibility requirements.

The basic eligibility criteria for Subclass 482 visa are as follows –

• The candidate must have a nomination for a skilled position from an Australian employer.
• The candidate must be employed in the nominated profession and have worked for the nominator.
• The candidate must have prior work experience in the nominated occupation for at least two years to qualify for a 482 visa.
• The candidate must meet the English language proficiency requirements.
• The candidate must possess relevant skills for the assigned job.
• The candidate must fulfill the character and health requirements.
• The candidate must have the intention to sign Australia’s Value statement.
• The candidate must not be indebted to the Australian government.

The eligibility for three main streams is as follows –

• Short-term stream: Candidate must have a nomination for a job in the STSOL (Short-term skilled occupation list)
• Medium-term stream: Candidate must have a nomination for a job in the MLTSSL (Medium & Long-term Strategy skills list)
• Labour Agreement stream: The candidate must have an occupation included in the Labour Agreements between the Australian government and the sponsor.

482 Visa Requirements

The requirements for the Subclass 482 Visa are given below –

• Proof of qualifications and skills
• Evidence of skill assessment report
• Proof of English proficiency
• Proof of medical insurance and medical certificate
• Police clearance certificate
• Proof of identity & Marriage certificate for spouses.
• Proof of birth certificate, a parental consent form, or statutory declaration form for minor children.
• Proof of identification along with sufficient evidence of dependency for adult-dependent children.
