Finland Dependent Visa

Immigrants in Finland who want to bring their dependents to the country must apply for the Finland family visa. A Finland family visa is given to immediate family members of immigrants who have a residence permit.  The following dependents can come to Finland on this visa:

  • Spouse or registered partner
  • A legal guardian (in the case where the applicant is a child under 18).
  • A child under 18 years
Eligibility requirements
  • At the time of your application and throughout your stay in Finland, your passport must be valid and up to date. You will not be granted a visa if your passport is out of date.
  • The PK1plus form must be filled out and signed by your Finnish sponsor before being forwarded to you to be attached to the remainder of the application.
Documents required
  • Passport size photos
  • A copy of the bio page of your passport You must also save a separate copy of your passport’s bio page.
  • A copy of the bio page from your sponsor’s passport so that you can attach it to your application.
  • Civil documents. Civil status documents must be recent and valid from your country of residence. These documents include:
    • Birth certificates.
    • Marriage license.
  • Proof of financial means. If you move to Finland, you must show that you can financially support yourself. If your spouse or partner is paying for your stay, you must give a copy of their income tax return. Financial stability is determined by the size of the family; each application has its own set of requirements.
  • Document proving your current address. A certificate demonstrating that you are legally residing in your current nation is also required.
  • Certificate of good conduct. This is a certificate issued by civil courts that verifies that you are not under investigation and that no criminal charges have been filed against you.
  • Copy of your employment contract
  • Evidence of your spouse’s financial situation. You must also submit the following documents:
    • Bank statements over the previous six months of your spouse/partner.
    • Copies of your spouse’s/ partner’s recent tax card, tax decision, and tax return.
    • Business license, income sheet, bank statements, number of employees, and other documents pertaining to your spouse or partner
Application process

Make sure you have all of your documentation ready: Gather all of the required paperwork for the application, and ensure that any required documents are legalized if necessary. Check with the embassy before starting to collect your documents to acquire a list of requirements and which documents need to be legalized. Extra documentation may be requested by embassies. If your documents aren’t in English, Finnish, or Swedish, they’ll need to be translated.

Make an application for a visa: You can apply for a visa after you have everything ready. You can either apply online using the e-service or in person at a Finnish mission near you. In either case, you are the only one who can submit the application; even if you give them permission, they will not be able to do it on your behalf.

Visit the Finnish mission in your area: You must go to your local embassy/consulate to provide your fingerprints and confirm your identity as soon as you complete your application. Bring the actual documents you attached to your online application as well.

Wait for a response: A Finland family visa might take anything from 2 to 9 months to process. The online application will be processed faster than the paper application. The processing period will be extended if something is missing from your application, so be sure you have everything the first time you submit your papers.

Go to Finland: The Immigration Office will submit your residency card to the embassy when your application has been processed and you have received a favorable response. You can pick it up and then travel to Finland whenever you’re ready. You must register at a local registration office once you arrive.
