Migrate to Denmark

There are many reasons to choose Denmark for migration. The Global Peace Index survey ranks Denmark as the second most peaceful country in the world, after New Zealand, Denmark was also ranked as the least corrupt country in the world.

Copenhagen was ranked as the most livable city in the world by Monocle magazine, about 9% of the population has foreign citizenship. A large portion of foreign citizens are of Scandinavian ancestry, while the rest are of a variety of Nationalities.

Denmark’s population is approx. 5.5 million. Danish is the official language and is spoken throughout the country. English and German are the most widely spoken foreign languages.

Denmark has a GDP per capita Income higher than that of most European countries and 15-20% higher than that of the United States.

Denmark immigration

It is possible to be granted a residence permit for the purpose of seeking work and working in Denmark.

To obtain a work permit, you must have prior experience in a profession that is facing a skill shortage in Denmark or have a job offer with a reasonably high salary.

You can use the Pay Limit system if you are given a position that pays more than DKK 436,000 ($69,000) per year. Otherwise, the position would should be in a highly sought-after sector such as healthcare, science or certain trades.

Non-European citizens can also enter Denmark by full-time higher education, internships, religious worker permits, au pair permits, and the asylum program for those seeking protection.

Another option to migrate to Denmark is to use the Startup Denmark scheme where 3 foreign entrepreneurs are offered a Danish residence permit and provided an opportunity to start a business provided, they have an innovative business idea. A panel of experts will review the business plan before giving the residence permit.

Application for residence permit

You can apply for the residence permit by making an application to the Danish Immigration Service before landing in Denmark. The applicant has to give his biometric before making an application to the Danish embassy.

In order to apply for the residence permit, the applicant would need to give required biometric information to Danish embassy or consulate in their home country.

A residency permit dependent on work or research in Denmark allows you to bring your family to Denmark with you.

If the requirements for issuing residence permits are met, a permit may be issued to your spouse or partner, and children under the age of 18 living at home.

Permanent residency

After eight years of having a temporary residence permit in Denmark, you can apply for a permanent residence permit. In some cases, the requirement is four years.

At any time, you can apply for a permanent residence permit. You don’t have to wait until your residency permit is about to expire before applying. It is important, however, that you file your application before your current residence permit expires.

You may apply for an extension of your current residence permit if you do not meet all of the criteria for a permanent residence permit. You can apply for an extension three months before the expiry of your residence permit.
