Switzerland reopen borders

A decision regarding reopening Swiss borders to EU/EFTA member states, the UK and Schengen associated countries has been suggested by the Federal Department of Justice & Police. It’s been presented to the Swiss Federal Council by Karin Keller-Sutter, the Federal Councillor, and has received the council’s support. The reopening will happen on July 15, 2020.

The Schengen associated countries involved include Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. The nationals of these countries could start using the Switzerland visit visa soon.

However, Switzerland has maintained its stand that it won’t open its borders to Italy for trips and tours. This is because such a measure, the Swiss authorities think, would be premature at this point in time.

The decision gets in line with that of quite a few European countries. France and Iceland will also open their borders on July 15, 2020.

Decision on lifting the border restrictions for third countries will be made in time after consultation with the Schengen member states.

There will even be efforts to coordinate with Italy to reopen the Swiss border with the country gradually.

The return of the good times for the Swiss tourist visa seems to be finally here!
