Now, Canadian citizens and permanent residents can reunite with their foreign immediate family members from June 8, 2020.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that from June 8, 2020, immediate family members of Canadians will be allowed to enter the country.
The exemption is for all foreign nationals who want to reunite with their family in Canada. Nevertheless, the immediate relatives arriving in Canada must be free of any symptoms of COVID-19.
During his daily COVID-19 briefing, Mr. Trudeau also said that immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents will get this exemption. But the exemption is applicable only if their trip is at least of 15-day duration. They must also self-quarantine for 14 days when they enter Canada as is the law regarding Canada immigration.
The immediate family member could be:
- Dependent children
- Spouse or common-law partner
- Guardian or tutor
- Parent or stepparent
However, the exemption isn’t applicable to the immediate family of temporary residents in Canada. These may be those who are at work in Canada or studying in the country.
The Canadian Prime Minister has received full support in this regard from his provincial counterparts.
