In a bid to equalize the wages of temporary foreign workers and Canadian citizens, the federal government of Canada is set to increase the salaries of workers under the TFWP or Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
The hike in wages for international workers under the TFWP is higher than the inflation rate in Canada.
TFWP has various streams, both for high-earning positions and the others for low-earning occupations. All the employers need to pay temporary workers equal salaries as Canadian workers irrespective of which stream the foreign workers are recruited through.

Increased Median Hourly Wages
The rate of inflation in Canada is 6.7%. Still, the median hourly wages in Canada's various provinces and territories have been witnessing growth.

Increasing Jobs in Canada
The report by Statistics Canada states that the job opportunities in Canada have been booming since February 2022, when the pandemic restrictions were eased for Canadian workers as well as foreign workers.
British Columbia and Ontario witnessed an increased rate of employment by 0.8% in February. Quebec witnessed a 0.9% growth in employment for workers.
People from abroad who wish to work temporarily in Canada can work with the help of a work permit either through the IMP or International Mobility Program or TFWP.

Labour Market Impact Assessment
The TFWP work permit facilitates the international workers whose employers have obtained a positive LMIA or Labour Market Impact Assessment. A positive report in LMIA implies that there is a need for foreign workers to fill the job vacancies and that the Canadian workforce is not negatively impacted.
The program consists of four streams. They are:
- High-skilled workers
- Low-skilled workers
- Program for Seasonal Agricultural Worker
- Programs for Live-In Caregivers
The work permit in IMP does not require a positive result in LMIA.
