In Germany, there are two databases that have information on the entrance qualification needed for higher education. These are:

  • DAAD database: This database indicates the requirements for admission and whether your qualification for higher entrance is recognized in Germany. The database currently holds data for 80 countries.
  • Anabin database: This database carries more data for all countries. The information in the database is given only in German.

An institute for higher education will decide whether you meet the requirements to join the institution in Germany.

If you are a potential student without entrance qualification for higher education in Germany, you are required to attend the Studienkolleg. It’s a preparatory course with 2 semesters. Admission to the Studienkolleg is possible only after passing an entrance exam in the German language. A final exam is conducted too, and only after passing you can qualify for entrance to the higher education program.

In case you are trying to join a course in which the language used for teaching is German, it will be necessary for you to know German at level B2. You must prove it through valid submissions along with the application. This requirement can be completed by taking a language test for German when you are living in your home country.

The next requirement for you to study in Germany is to have a blocked bank account having a balance of at least EUR10,332. This will prove that you have a sufficient amount of money in the bank to meet the financial requirements while studying in Germany.

Another requirement is having health insurance proof, which you have to submit while applying for a student visa. This will cost you about EUR110 a month till you reach the age of 30 or have completed semester fourteen of the subject of study at the German university. After this, the monthly premium increases to EUR190.

Now, it’s obvious that you need a Germany student visa. After getting admitted to a university in Germany or an institution that’s recognized. You have to apply for a Germany student visa at a German embassy or consulate near you. Along with the application, you are supposed to submit documents like:

  • valid passport
  • two recent portrait photographs
  • proof that you have been admitted into a study program
  • certificates of earlier education that are authenticated
  • your CV with proof of internship and experience working in relevant fields
  • proof of your having the ability to financially support yourself by paying study and accommodation expenses.
