Immigration candidates who are eligible for faster 2-week visa processing under GSS include candidates who don’t require an LMIA for eligibility and those who don’t.

Workers who don’t need LMIA

If you are a candidate who is exempt from the LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment) requirement, you can become eligible for the 2-week visa processing facility under the GSS by meeting all the following criteria:

  • You are lodging an application from outside Canada.
  • You are engaged in a job that’s categorized as either NOC (National Occupational Classification) skill type 0 or A. Type 0 is for managerial jobs and type A is for professionals as per the NOC.
  • The employer recruiting you have submitted employment offers through the employer portal. They must also have paid the necessary fee for employer compliance.

Note that GSS processing is not available for International Experience Canada.

If your application for a visa is lodged on or after November 16, 2022, it’s necessary that your occupation is either in the category of TEER 0 or 1. Only then you will get Global Skills Strategy eligibility.

Visa applicants under the International Experience Canada won’t be eligible for fast processing under GSS.

Workers who need an LMIA

If you are one of those Canada visa applicants who need an LMIA for a Canada visa, you must meet the following requirements to be eligible for a GSS work permit:

  • You have to apply from outside of Canada
  • You must have a positive LMIA via the GSS Stream of the TFW (Temporary Foreign Worker) Program. The LMIA information will be present in the LMIA decision letter.
