Proof of independent income is also required for “elective residency” visas. It is, in fact, the underlying concept of this type of visa, which prohibits you from working in Italy. You must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to maintain yourself for the duration of your stay, regardless of any current salaries. You must also produce proof of either property ownership or a rental agreement in Italy. You will also be required to disclose your criminal record or proof for the lack of it.
