Lately, Ontario PNP conducted its first-ever immigration draw for the in-Demand Skills stream. The draw was held under its new intake system.
The In-demand Skills stream was introduced to the new EOI system just 3 weeks before this Ontario PNP draw.
More about the draw
- There were 2 draws held.
- The general draw had 54 immigration candidates invited. The minimum score required for this draw was 11.
- The draw for the Regional Immigration Pilot had 1 candidate invited. This draw had no minimum EOI score prescribed.
- The candidates invited required work experience in one of the NOC coded occupations listed below:
- Health & Agriculture
- NOC 3413 – nurse aides, patient service associates, and orderlies
- NOC 8431 – general farmworkers
- NOC 8611 – harvesting laborers
- NOC 4412 – Home support workers & occupations that are related (barring housekeepers)
- NOC 8432 – nursery and greenhouse workers
- NOC 9462 – industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers, and related workers
- Manufacturing (only outside Greater Toronto Area)
- NOC 9411 – machine operators and metal & mineral metal processing
- NOC 9418 – machine operators for other metal products
- NOC 9437 – machine operators for woodworking
- NOC 9523 – electronics assemblers, inspectors, fabricators, and testers
- NOC 9537 – other products assemblers, inspectors, and finishers
- NOC 9416 – machine operators for metalworking and forging
- NOC 9421 – operators for chemical plant machine
- NOC 9446 – machine operators for industrial sewing
- NOC 9526 – mechanical assemblers & inspectors
- NOC 9417 – machining tool operators
- NOC 9422 – machine operators for plastics processing
- NOC 9461 – food, beverage, and associated products processing, machine operators, and process control
- NOC 9536 – process operators for coaters, industrial painters, and metal finishing
- Candidates who were invited have 14 calendar days to file an application for a nomination with Ontario PNP.

Quick facts: In-Demand Skills Stream
- The stream has its focus on meeting the demand in the Canadian province by offering pathways to skilled immigration candidates.
- The candidates are supposed to have skills in target occupations the provincial government considers “high-skilled”.
- Foreign workers with an eligible job offer in Ontario can apply for a nomination in Ontario via the In-Demand Skills stream. They are supposed to have an added-up experience of 9 months in the province within 3 years prior to applying.
- The candidate’s seasonal work experience isn’t considered eligible to meet the requirement of work experience.
- If the candidate has a history of completing the required eligible number of work hours in part-time work, such candidate may be considered eligible. The total qualifying work hours is either
- 1,200 hours of paid employment in a single job, or
- A minimum of 30 hours of work per week for 9 months in more than one job.
- The general eligibility requirements include:
- High-school education
- Sufficient funds to settle in Canada
- A minimum language test score of 4 in all language skills

About Regional Immigration Pilot
- The Regional Immigration Pilot was introduced to solve labor shortages in Canadian communities in the country’s provinces.
- 150 nominations are allocated by the federal government under this pilot to 3 regional locations:
- Quinte West/Belleville
- Cornwall
- Chatham-Kent
- Provincial nomination is given if candidates:
- Have eligibility for any of the Employer Job Offer streams of OINP
- The candidates have an offer for a full-time job in one of the participating communities
- The 3 Employer Job Offer streams are:
- International Student stream – meant for international students who have received offers in skilled jobs
- Foreign Worker stream – meant for foreign workers with a skilled job offer in Ontario
- In-Demand Skills Stream – meant for foreign workers in occupation facing a shortage of labor in Ontario
Scoring points for immigration to Ontario
- The ranking of candidates is done based on the basis of some human capital factors.
- The human capital factors include:
- education
- wage
- the region that’s chosen to study or work
- official language ability
- Points are given for the skill level required of the candidate’s job offer and the candidate’s work experience in Canada.
- An additional 10 points could be awarded to a candidate at the discretion of the province.
