The latest Manitoba draw for granting provincial nomination happened on February 3, 2020. The draw took place under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). 242 candidates were invited of which 15 were Express Entry candidates.
This draw was the second one this year, conducted by Manitoba. The earlier one was conducted on January 30, 2020. The event contributed to the Canadian immigration scene. Provincial nominations have great significance here.
The invitations are technically called Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA). These were sent to candidates in 3 provincial streams:
- Skilled Workers in Manitoba (182 nos.)
- Skilled Workers Overseas (27 nos.)
- International Education Stream (33 nos.)
The Express Entry stream is typically beneficial for immigrants in the economic class. It helps them get permanent residence. Express Entry candidates fit for Manitoba’s provincial nomination will earn 600 extra points on their CRS score. This will ensure that they will get an invitation in a subsequent Express Entry draw. These Express Entry candidates should nevertheless prove their work experience. Without that, they will not be eligible for the Manitoba provincial nomination.
For a provincial nomination in Manitoba, you must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). EOI is essential for skilled workers in Manitoba and Skilled workers overseas. This online profile submitted with MPNP ranks candidates out of a score of 1000 points. The factors that decide your points will include:

- Connections to Manitoba
- Skill in English
The cut-off CRS scores for each stream of skilled workers in the latest draw were:
- 525 for skilled workers in Manitoba
- 611 for skilled Workers Overseas
Skilled Workers Overseas come invited directly by the MPNP. This happens under a Strategic Recruitment Initiative. These workers can apply for provincial nomination. For that, they need not be present in Manitoba.
The Express Entry Pathway gives skilled foreign workers a chance to enter Canada. They must have experience in Manitoba’s in-demand occupations. These occupations belong to job categories like:
- Trades, transport and equipment operators and related occupations
- Health Occupations
- Natural and applied sciences and related occupations

- Occupations unique to primary industry
- Occupations in social science, education, government service and religion
- Occupations unique to processing, manufacturing and utilities
