The latest Labor Force Survey held by Statistics Canada has reported that there has been a fall in unemployment in Canada for the fourth consecutive month. Thus, in September 2021, unemployment reached 6.9%. This was the lowest unemployment rate since the COVID-19 pandemic started. The reason for this was the rejoining of workers in the workforce of Canada in various industries.

Statistics Canada has also revealed that jobs in the public and private sectors came back in September 2021. Big job returns were recorded in the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Ontario.

Job additions in natural resources and manufacturing sectors

The manufacturing sector saw 22,000 jobs added lately. The addition of jobs in the natural resources sector was 6,600.

Higher vaccination rates have played an important role in bringing the Canadian economy around, making it possible for the country to recover from the hardships it faced during the pandemic.

Immigration contributing to population growth in Canada

During the onset of the COVID-19, and while restrictions were imposed owing to the pandemic, immigration was the reason there was a population growth of 74.9%. This was revealed by Statistics Canada in September 2021.

International migration increased from 24,329 in Q2 of 2020 to 75,084 in Q2 of 2021. This indicates that the number of skilled immigrants newly arriving to work in Canada has increased.

With strong inter-provincial migration happening between Canadian provinces during the pandemic crisis, populations of provinces like Yukon, the Atlantic Canadian provinces, and British Columbia increased.

Also, PNP helped skilled workers and investors to arrive in various provinces of Canada and become eligible to work there and apply for Canada PR.

Moreover, international students who arrived in Canada to join higher study courses also had the opportunity to work in Canada. This was materialized as one of these options:

  • Working on-campus without a work permit
  • Working off-campus with a work permit
  • Working in internship programs as part of a study curriculum with a work permit

Using the PGWP, graduated international students apply for a work permit to work in Canada. This was another part of Canada immigration that could contribute to the workforce of the country.
