A full guide for the 6 new immigration streams meant for essential workers and international graduates are now ready. These official instructions are to be followed to apply for the limited-period immigration pathways that are newly designed for Canada immigration.
The new pathways went operational on May 6, 2021. The IRCC will stop receiving applications under these pathways either on May 5, 2021 or once the maximum limit of applications receivable is reached.
The 6 new immigration pathways are the following:
Immigration pathway | For whom | Maximum intake |
International graduates | International graduates | 40,000 applications |
International graduates who speak French | International graduates | None |
Workers in Canada – Stream A | Healthcare workers who speak French | None |
Workers in Canada - Stream B | Essential non-healthcare workers who speak French | None |
Workers in Canada – Stream A | Healthcare workers | 20,000 applications |
Workers in Canada – Stream B | Essential non-healthcare workers | 30,000 applications |
The following are the highlights of the guide.
Before you apply:
- You must be working in Canada when applying.
- You can be at work in any job when you apply. If you apply as an essential worker, you must have worked 1,560 work hours in an occupation deemed eligible. This must be within the past 3 years. Applicants from the graduate stream must have a Canadian credential.
- You must submit a completed application along with all necessary documents. These include language test results, proof of fees paid.
- You may apply to multiple streams. However, you will have to pay the fees required for each application.
- The process of intake will be “first in, first out”.
- If you are living in Quebec at present, you may still be eligible. But for that, you must demonstrate to the officer that it’s your intention to move to another province or show a job offer in another province.
- Experience in self-employment does not count for these streams.
- Wet signatures aren't needed on documents. The only exception is for a representative form. An attestation will be there at the end of the online application. This will act as a signature.
- You can make free payment in advance online. You can upload the receipt in your application, or make the payment via the online portal. If you overpay, IRCC will start processing your application as well as make an automatic refund.
