Canada has announced its Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023. It is as follows:
401,000 immigrants in 2021
411,000 immigrants in 2022
421,000 immigrants in 2023
This plan aims to achieve the highest level of immigration in the history of Canada immigration. In 1913 Canada received 401,000 new immigrants. It was the only time in the history of immigration Canada welcomed over 400,000 immigrants.
As per Canada’s Immigration Levels plan for 2021-2023, the country aims to welcome 60% of its total immigrants under economic class programs. This will be achieved through Express Entry and PNP draws.
Canada invites immigrants under the categories namely:
1) Family
2) Economic
3) Refugee
4) Compassionate
Humanitarian
Due to COVID-19, Canada is likely to fall short of the 341,000 immigrants planned for this year. But since Canada is conducting immigration draws relentlessly, it will possibly break its Express Entry record in 2020. Also, PNP draws will also be held through the year.
The Canada Immigration Levels plan for 2021-2023 is the most ambitious immigration plan ever made by the country. The high immigration levels set by Canada is intended to offset the negative economic and financial impacts caused by the low birth rate and an aging population.
Since 1867, the country’s founding year, Canada has accepted at least 300,000 immigrants a year only 5 times. Currently, the ratio of immigrants to Canadian population is 0.9%. This surpasses the per capita intake of immigrants in the US by 3 times.
