Canada breaks all records, processes nearly 5 million applications in 2022
IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) announces its record-breaking feat in processing 5M foreign immigrants' applications in 2022. The immigration authority has worked on around half-million applications since August 2022, double in number compared to the 2021 period.
IRCC has already planned firmly to process 431,000 new PRs to Canada by the end of 2022 and is almost near the target.

To handle the inventory, IRCC has already announced recruiting 1250 new staff to work to help streamline applications.
IRCC maintains service standards with an expected timeline to process an application. Sometimes the service standard varies from the time IRCC takes to process.

Canada sets its plan to invite the highest-ever number of foreign immigrants.
Canada has recently set its Immigration levels to plan 2023-2025 aiming to invite 500,000 new PRs to Canada by 2025 end. The goal of asking for more significant numbers is because the country has to fill in the gaps in the workforce market urgently.
Nearly 9M Canadians will be reaching their retirement age by 2030, and there is no ample number of young Canadians to take up these vacant jobs.
Previous announcements by IRCC to attract more immigrants
- IRCC extended the length of work permits for spouses and working-age dependants under the Temporary foreign worker's stream.
- Canada has also lifted the work cap hours per week, which were 20 before for international students.
- AIP (Atlantic Immigration Program) has become permanent this year and invited many immigrants through this program.
- Extensions added to the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) program and Economic Mobility Pilot (EMP) Program.
- IRCC also introduced sector-specific initiatives for recruiting chronic shortages of occupations through Express Entry
