Let’s have a look at New Zealand’s Accredited Employer Work Visa

New Zealand announced significant changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) implemented from October 29, 2023. The revisions to the AEWV policies are aimed at streamlining the application process and promoting equal treatment of migrants.

Here are the major AEWV changes that have been introduced:

Change 1: Removal of the 90-day trial period

Accredited employers can no longer avail of the 90-day trial periods for hiring employers in employment agreements of the AEWV.

Change 2: Job Check Application

The Accredited Employer Work Visa job applications that include the employment agreement with a trial period will be rejected after October 29, 2023, irrespective of the submission date. However, applications already approved before October 29 will remain unchanged.

Change 3: AEWV Updates

Technical updates have been made regarding the suspension/revocation process of employer accreditation under the AEWV. Employers are no longer allowed to share specific cost details with the visa applicants.

Change 4: AEWV Labor Hire Employment Threshold Changes

Accredited employers hiring migrants in certain construction occupations must ensure they include 35% of the NZ residents and citizens for full-time employment.

Change 5: Increase in Processing Times

The assessment approach of AEWV has been modified, increasing processing times. Employers are recommended to allot a minimum of 6 weeks for accreditation and job check applications.
