Record-Breaking job vacancies in Q4, Canada looking to fill 9.2 lakh jobs Here’s some important news about job creation in Canada. Job creation has touched above the level of what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Now, employers are trying hard to find skilled and suitable employees to work in Canada in various sectors. Canada immigration is going to be even more significant in the future. In all 20 sectors of the economy, employers in Canada have been trying to fill 915,500 job vacancies in the Q4 of 2021. This was 80% in excess of what it was in 2019 and 63.4% in excess of the level in 2020. This report was shared by Statistics Canada. Nova Scotia and Manitoba were the highest job-generating provinces in Canada in 2021 in Q4 of 2021. Job vacancies in Nova Scotia jumped by 11.9%, which translates to 20,300 jobs. In Manitoba, there was an increase in job vacancies by 5.9%, which comes to 25,800 jobs. Job seekers were mainly concentrated on eight sectors:

  • retail trade
  • healthcare & social assistance
  • professional, scientific, and technical services
  • waste management & remediation services, administrative & support, other services except for public administration
  • real estate
  • education
  • Utilities
  • rental and leasing

There’s a huge demand for professionals in the hospitality sector in Canada. The number of job vacancies in this sector may have decreased in Q4. But on the ground, employers in this sector are struggling to find skilled people to work in Canada in their job positions. Employers can use the TFWP (Temporary Foreign Worker Program) and the IMP (International Mobility Program) to hire foreign nationals. An important factor to consider is whether the particular job is among those exempted from an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment).

What’s LMIA?

LMIA is issued as a document by ESDC (Employment & Social Development Canada). It establishes the need of a Canadian employer for a foreign worker to fill a job position in the circumstance of finding no Canadian worker/Canada PR visa holder available to do the job. The jobs that don’t require an LMIA usually belongs to one of these categories:

  • They are included in an international trade accord
  • These jobs are recognized as in the best interests of Canada
  • They are part of an accord between the federal government and a provincial/territorial government
