IRCC has conducted its 2020 PGP lottery. This Canada immigration lottery was supposed to be conducted towards the end of December 2020. But it was postponed owing to due to COVID-19 and certain other reasons.
10,000 applications were accepted in this round of PGP. Those who were chosen in the lottery have 60 days to submit their application for sponsorship to IRCC. However, an extension of this period is possible if applicants have difficulty to apply due to COVID-19. IRCC had opened the “interest to sponsor” window in the period from October 13 to November 3, 2020.
Eligibility criteria
A PGP sponsor must:
- Be a Candian citizen or Canada PR
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Meet the minimum level of income prescribed under the program
- Sign a 20-year undertaking agreement as a sponsor to repay any social assistance money given to the sponsored relatives (10-year undertaking for sponsors living in Quebec)
Canada is planning to accept up to 30,000 applications in the 2021 PGP slated to be conducted in the first half of this year. There will be a lottery again that will provide a window for “interest to sponsor” to be placed via IRCC’s website.
